From Lockdown to Two Wheels:
2020 shut the world down. But in the Philippines, it also put an entire generation on two wheels.
When public transportation ground to a halt and jeepneys sat empty on the road, Filipinos didn't stop moving they just found a new way to do it. Bicycle imports into the country nearly doubled in a single year, and by the following year, roughly one in four households across the country was using a bicycle. What started as a necessity a way to get to work when there was no other option turned into something bigger. Streets that used to belong entirely to cars started filling up with bikes instead.
Where the Rides Actually Happened
With malls, markets, and most public places restricted under the "new normal," there weren't a lot of places left to go. So, we went back to what was always their nature. Most of our rides happened across the southern part of Laguna, through the lakes, rivers, and open fields of the province we grew up in.
There was something oddly full circle about it. Places we'd driven past our whole lives without a second thought suddenly became our only escape. Riding through open fields and along quiet riverbanks in our own backyard, we were rediscovering Laguna at a pace we'd never experienced it before — on two wheels, with nowhere else to be.
The Design
This cycling kit story in its details. The deep green base is a nod to the nature places that became our routine the fields, the rivers, the open land of Laguna. The geometric white triangle pattern across the sleeve breaks up the green like light cutting through trees or reflecting off water,
Every design choice traces back to where we actually were during that time: not in a studio, not in a city out in the open, in the province that raised us.
